Younus Mahmood younus@theymsgroup.com

Senior software engineer in Chicago

Senior engineering for your backlog, without a full time hire.

I'm Younus. I've been building software for 10+ years. I take real tickets from your team's backlog, features and bug fixes, and ship them. I work in React and TypeScript, Node, Postgres and Supabase, and AI agents.

Experience

  1. Publicis Media

    Senior UI Engineer

    2021 to 2026

Built the reporting and dashboard tool (React, Node, MongoDB) that became the most used app among clients, plus the shared React and Storybook component library. Led UI code reviews and mentoring.

  2. Way2b1

    Full Stack Software Engineer

    2018 to 2021

Built three React and TypeScript front ends, and Node services on Postgres that made data retrieval 30% faster.

  3. Capgemini

    Developer Consultant

    2017 to 2018

Built Guidewire PolicyCenter features and coordinated offshore deployments that ran 15% faster.

What I take on

  • Full stack and front end implementation

Features in established React, Next.js and TypeScript codebases. Dashboards, component libraries, and React Native apps.

  • Backend and API integrations

Node services, Postgres and Supabase schemas, auth and row level security, Stripe billing, and third party APIs.

  • AI and workflow automation

Agent features with tool calling, MCP servers and connectors, voice input, and automation pipelines.

Selected work

Sulo

My company

sulomotion.com
A picture board made in Sulo for a speech practice game Sulo's RTM billing screen with demo patients
What it is
A home exercise platform for pediatric therapy clinics. Therapists create illustrated exercises and picture boards in seconds, parents log progress from home, and the clinic sees how the week went before the next visit. It also handles Remote Therapeutic Monitoring billing.
What I built
The marketing site, the Expo mobile app and most of the internal admin tool, plus work across the React web app, the Node backend and the AI features.
Stack
React, TanStack, Tailwind, NestJS, Postgres, Claude and OpenAI models, AWS, Expo, Astro.

RenCaptur

Client work for a wound care company

RenCaptur web console patient list with demo patients
What they needed
Clinicians had to document wounds at the bedside, often without a reliable connection, and then review healing over time from the office.
What I delivered
The whole system, solo. A phone app for wound photos, measurements and dictated notes that works offline and syncs later. A web console for chart review, healing trends and team access. An admin tool to set up clinics. Access is scoped by role and by patient, and every export is logged.
Stack
Expo and React Native, Convex, TanStack Start, Claude, Docker on AWS.

SecretDocs

Client work for a wound care company

secretdocs.io
SecretDocs secure viewer showing a test contract with watermarks
What they needed
A way to share sensitive documents with staff without losing control of who sees them.
What I delivered
The whole product, solo. Documents open in the browser with watermarks. Organizations have roles and email invites, every request is checked on the server and backed by row level security, and an audit log records activity with search and CSV or PDF export. It now runs as its own product at secretdocs.io.
Stack
Next.js, React, Supabase (Postgres and Auth).

Also built

  • Wound Order Forms. Client work for the same wound care company. Providers fill in and sign an order on their phone, and the server turns it into a PDF and emails it to the care team. Astro, React, pdf-lib, Mailgun.
  • VocaOps. A voice first operations tool for founders, with a Claude agent, a custom Google Workspace MCP server, and per seat Stripe billing on Supabase.
  • ApexDrives. A React Native app for finding and driving great roads, with CarPlay navigation, Mapbox, and Supabase with PostGIS.
  • ResumaidPro. An AI resume builder with a Chrome extension that tailors a resume to the job you're viewing. Next.js, Express, Puppeteer, Stripe.

  1. 1

You send me a real ticket from your backlog.

  2. 2

I review it, and we agree on a scope that fits the block before I start.

  3. 3

I ship it in your codebase, through your normal review.

  4. 4

We decide together whether to continue on a monthly retainer.
